The Inspiring Story of Handmade by Handmaid
We all feel like work can take over our lives and keep us from doing the things we really want to do. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you don’t have to let work confine you. In my case, I quit my job as an interior designer when my home asked me for quality time—so I could invest some of my valuable years in the process of building a beautiful family. As a mother of three awesome kids (Erela, Esther and Daniel), I knew this was the right choice for me. But despite leaving behind my career, I didn’t give up on pursuing my dream. Instead, I used it as motivation to start something new!
My story started with a chance encounter at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai. There was a gypsy guy selling colorful beaded necklaces. He had nothing above his head but still he was determinedly selling his wares every day—and this inspired me to think differently about what I could achieve with all that was available to me at home. So I bought one of his necklaces and brought it back home with me. Then, using the supplies around me, I cut up the necklace into earrings and sold them for a christmas sale in my husband's office. And this was the beginning of “Handmade by Handmaid”.(Dec-2011)
I quickly realized that not only could I make money from this venture, but that it also allowed me to let go of many of the worries and pressures . My creative juices were flowing again and every day felt like an adventure; whether it was sourcing new materials or coming up with fresh designs for jewelry pieces, each task kept me engaged in ways that office life never did. Plus, now that the focus was on creating something that would bring joy to others rather than merely earning money for myself and my family, everything felt much more meaningful!
But perhaps the best part has been seeing how empowering this experience has been for other women in similar situations—those who are looking to pursue their dreams while maintaining a healthy balance between work life and family life. Through Handmade by Handmaid, not only am I able to share some amazing stories about female entrepreneurs; but also provide practical advice so they can create their own unique businesses without sacrificing too much time away from their families!
Conclusion:
My story is just another example of how even when we think our dreams are out of reach—they may be closer than we think! We can use our passions and hobbies to create something special while still having enough time left over for our families and loved ones. That’s why quitting my job as an interior designer wasn't giving up on pursuing something great—it was actually opening doors for something even better! So if you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed in your current situation, remember that there's always room for growth and new opportunities ahead! Who knows? Maybe you'll find your own inspiration like I did mine at Besant Nagar Beach...and then turn it into something extraordinary!
